From Bottom-Up Democracy
Movendi International is a dynamic, innovative and passionate global movement. We are member-led with a strong history of bottom-up democracy. This worldwide community of NGOs is made up of people of all ages, regardless of gender, color, nationality, religious belief or sexual orientation, socio-economic position or political persuasion.
In Movendi International democracy has been a core value from the very beginning in 1851. When nowhere else women and black people where equal and welcome, in Movendi they were welcome to participate freely and equally. In Movendi International it is our members who decide on the course of the organization, who elect the International Board and who adopt our policy positions. It is our heart-driven members who carry the organization, participate in the day-to-day work, form special expert groups and represent Movendi International externally.
Together we strive to build more democratic and equitable societies. And we start with ourselves because we know that leading by example is the best leadership.

Movendi International has a history of more than 160 years of service in societies and communities around the world, promoting Human Rights, democracy, justice and development. With our 122 Member Organizations in 54 countries, we are the largest membership-based global movement of NGOs promoting a richer and freer life free from alcohol and other drugs.
Each member of our movement chooses to lead a life free from the use of alcohol and drugs and to promote the values of the Movendi movement with their own lifestyle choices.

3 Types Of Membership
We offer membership in Movendi International for all types of civil society organizations, including organizations for juniors, youth, NGOs with specific interests, local or national organizations or institutions. NGOs can apply for either full membership or associated membership.
We also offer individual membership for people who want to be part of our global movement.
Membership requires an annual fee to Movendi International as determined by the World Congress.
Full membership in Movendi International is open to any civil society organization, which accepts the Movendi platform and its values. Full members of Movendi International promote a life free from alcohol and other drugs by their own lifestyle.
Organizations that are full members pay an annual membership fee to Movendi International.
Full members enjoy full voting rights in the Movendi International World Congress and are eligible to hold any office within Movendi International. There are many more benefits of full membership in Movendi International.

Associated membership in Movendi International is open to any civil society organization, which accepts the Movendi platform and its values but does not fulfill all requirements for full membership. An associated Member Organization pays a set membership fee to Movendi International. There are a number of benefits for associated membership in our global movement.

Individual membership in Movendi International is open to anyone who endorses fully the Movendi International platform and leads a life free from alcohol and other drugs.
Individuals normally affiliate to Movendi International through their recognised national or community level organisation. Where no such organisations exist, or due to special circumstances, individuals may seek direct membership of Movendi International.
