Our final contribution to the last round of informal consultations concerning the NCDs GAP…

On 29th of March I submitted another contribution to the on-going informal consultations that the World Health Organization (WHO) is conducting to draft a Global Action Plan (GAP) to prevent and control Non-communicable diseases.

In my last post I wrote about our efforts to support and protect the so called “Best Buys” to reduce alcohol use, which are under attack by Big Alcohol. And as it turns out, in the revised draft the term “Best Buys” is missing. But there are also positive developments.

Alcohol is a major risk factor for NCDs and evidence from around the world shows that increasing the price, reducing the availability and banning alcohol marketing are cost-effective and high-impact measures to reduce and prevent a large number of alcohol-related NCDs.

So, once more I share the IOGT International response to the 4th round of informal consultations concerning the WHO Global Action Plan for Prevention and Control of NCDs 2013-2020 – it is a reaction to this updated draft NCD GAP 2013-2020 by the WHO, from 15 March 2013.

Please feel free to comment and share your opinions below.
