The other day, I had an interesting discussion about marijuana. I want to share it with you.
Note: This is a true online chat between me and a junior doctor. The name of the doctor has been withheld as I didn’t seek his/ her consent for publication.
Doctor:
Sir, what is your opinion on marijuana
Me:
Good to make ropes, right?
Doctor:
What do you mean? I find the issue and discussion regarding it fascinating.
Me:
Other than for its fibre, what worth it has?
Doctor:
Isn’t there some medicinal properties? Also, how is it gaining the push for legalisation if it really has no actual value? Is it mere public opinion?
Me:
It is orchestrated.
Doctor:
Is there really a lobby with enough funding to back it up? If anything, it seems like the alcohol and tobacco industries would work against it!
Me:
To the contrary….. What effects cannabis have psychologically?
Doctor:
Doesn’t it have generally a depressant and psychotic activity? I remember it could be deleterious especially if taken by a person who has a predisposition to psychotic illnesses. I can’t remember for sure, though.
Me:
You are right. Do you think, if asked from a pro-cannabis-legalisation guy, I would get a similar answer?
Doctor:
I agree. They seem to downplay that aspect.
Me:
And seem to promote what aspect?
Doctor:
Not sure. That it’s a “better” option among recreational drugs. That it’s not a gateway drug. And maybe it has medical applications in areas such as chronic pain etc. Again I’m in no way knowledgeable in this topic, that’s why I wondered if I could get an input from you.
Me:
They tend to say that it’s a calming drug. No violence. Stimulates creativity. Basically it has magical effects on your brain, that’s what they say. Chemicals can give us happiness… Now, who else would benefit from same belief?
Doctor:
I see you’re point. If cannabis wins, so does the whole drug industry.
Me:
Not only them, the antidepressant – big pharma – industry, too. There ARE individual who actually love cannabis and promote it. Poor fellows. Otherwise, you are right. If cannabis wins so does the whole drug industry.
Doctor:
Thank you. You really did show a whole new side to the argument.
Me:
Welcome.
Dear Dr., as with many of the medical professionals, your comments say that you are blind to the many of the therapeutic, curing, and healing properties of Cannabis. Cannabis can either permanently cure, heal (suppress the adverse affects) or over 700 conditions that humans, or animals could suffer. These include completely curing even metastasized stage 4 Cancers, to brain tumors, and letting people who suffer from Parkinson’s and other motor neuron diseases live normal lives. It has been proven that Cannabis does a better job than many of the anti-depressants, and anti-whatever the doctors prescribe people with psychological conditions. I have to write in basic terms here in high-level, because otherwise it will take few hours to type exacts.
I suggest you do some research. The Internet has plenty of knowledge that come as research papers and individual’s experience. There are few corporate sponsored anti-cannabis articles too, and once you have gathered enough knowledge about the Cannabis, you will know what kind of B**S** that the anti-campaign spew out.
Here are some pointers, Cannabis plants have three main types 1. Sativa 2. Indica 3. Rudralis (this variety is not considered for medical applications). sativa strains are more stimulating, indicas tend to be more psychoactive. A feeling of well-being and ease is often associated with Sativas. There is another variety call Hemp, which is mainly grown for fiber, seed proteins, oils, and for many other derivatives.
Among hundreds of chemicals found in Cannabis, two main active ingredients are THC, and CBD. THC is the psychoactive component (but has many other therapeutic benefits as well, thus should not be discarded). CBD is not psychoactive, but provides many other therapeutic benefits. It is also said that CBD nullifies the effects of THC.
There are many varieties of Cannabis with various levels of THC, and CBD concentration in them. Therefore, based on the condition, the right variety (or the mix) need to be found out, which would be more effective.
Cannabis is not addictive, and not a gateway drug either. Administering Cannabis Oil rectally is the best form that is be absorbed to the body effectively, Compared to the side-effects of various Western drugs given to psychological patients, Cannabis is the most harmless treatment that anyone can find today which is not addictive nor have side affects. Your British Journal of Medicine will not provide you the details of how to administer them, and you would be on your own.
If you are genuinely interested, do your own research. You will have to go out of the way to find genuine research on the subject, as many of the typical drug-company sponsored articles will not give you the right picture.
Remember, Cannabis has been successfully used in Eastern Medicine for over 10,000 years, and it has been a household plant until the drug-company backed US lobby got it banned in the 60’s through UN.
Here is an excerpt from an article,
“Around the country, medical marijuana cards are routinely given to people suffering anxiety, depression, insomnia, ADHD, trauma, and mental health issues. The internet is replete with a growing number of testimonies of successful symptom alleviation through cannabis, including people diagnosed with psychotic disorders such as bipolar and schizophrenia, These are not just a few anecdotes, these are thousands of people giving firsthand accounts of benefiting from cannabis for mental health conditions. And with the growing number of dispensaries, review websites, and legal cannabis consumers, these testimonies are growing in number.”
