A Celebration of Community and Progress
On February 28, 2025, the official opening of the Center of Excellence for Addiction Treatment in Nakabiso, Mpigi District marked a remarkable achievement of the Vision 2030 initiative. This achievement reflects years of tireless work by Hope and Beyond and FORUT Germany, their commitment to holistic and sustainable solutions, and their shared vision of improving access to care and strengthening recovery support systems for people affected by alcohol and other drugs harms.

The opening ceremony was a powerful celebration of hope, solidarity, and community-led solutions. The event brought together local leaders, healthcare professionals, community members, and project partners — including representatives from Hope and Beyond, FORUT, and Movendi International (represented through International Board Member Juliet Namukasa) — to mark this transformative moment for addiction recovery in Uganda.
The new Center of Excellence for Addiction Treatment symbolises progress in building inclusive support structures for people and families affected by alcohol and other substance use disorders and addictions, offering counselling, rehabilitation, and community-driven solutions aimed at lasting change.
Honoring a Legacy: Hope and Beyond’s 13 Years of Impact
The launch of the center also marked Hope and Beyond’s 13th anniversary, a celebration of their enduring leadership in public health, alcohol policy, and addiction recovery. As a dedicated Movendi International member, Hope and Beyond has established itself as a trusted, deeply rooted organization in Uganda’s public health landscape, alcohol policy, and addiction treatment and recovery.
Through its years of work, Hope and Beyond has consistently delivered impactful interventions in addiction treatment, mental health promotion, and community support. Its leadership, expertise, and community-centered approach have been instrumental in the development and success of the Vision 2030 initiative.
This milestone is not only a celebration of a new facility but also a tribute to the long-standing legacy of Hope and Beyond in transforming lives and building healthier communities.

Vision 2030: A Holistic, Sustainable Approach
Vision 2030 is not only a treatment center, it represents a model for comprehensive, integrated and sustainable healthcare. The initiative aims to support long-term recovery by addressing the broader social and health needs of the community.
Key components of Vision 2030 include:
- A New Health Center:
The backbone of the project, this facility provides access to medical care, mental health services, and vaccinations for residents in the underserved Mpigi District. It replaces the previously rented facility in Kampala, reducing operational costs and increasing sustainability.
- Addiction Competence Center:
A specialized rehabilitation facility offering professional treatment, therapeutic support, and long-term recovery care for individuals struggling with alcohol and other drug-related problems.
The Vision 2030 initiative is already preparing for its next phase of development. Planned expansions and improvements aim to increase the center’s impact on community health and recovery outcomes:
- Accommodation Facilities by 2026
Long-term stays will be supported through new residential buildings, offering patients a more stable and supportive environment during recovery. - Improved Water Access
Clean water infrastructure is being developed not only for patients but also for the broader community, promoting hygiene and well-being. - Patient Transport System
A new transport initiative is underway to help patients from remote areas reach the center for treatment and follow-up care.
A Bold Step Toward Equitable Healthcare
Vision 2030 sets a powerful example of what is possible through community-driven leadership, local expertise, and international solidarity. The initiative showcases how Movendi International’s member organisations, like Hope and Beyond and FORUT, are leading transformative change by bringing people-centered, accessible, and sustainable healthcare services closer to those who need them.
As Uganda continues to tackle the growing challenges of alcohol harm and limited access to mental health care, Vision 2030 stands as a beacon of innovation and resilience — proof that community action can shape national progress.
