The side event will focus on innovative, evidence-based approaches like the Icelandic Prevention Model and the Planet Youth Program, which have successfully reduced youth substance use through community-based prevention strategies.
The discussion will highlight lessons from the Oviedo Declaration, emphasizing the need for multi-sectoral cooperation, sustainable development, and youth-centered approaches to address the drug problem.
Panelists will explore barriers such as Alcohol and Cannabis Industry interference, stigma, and policy fragmentation, while proposing solutions like scaling prevention models, enhancing international cooperation, and aligning drug policies with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
