Background
The International Confederation of Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drug (ATOD) Research Associations (ICARA) will host its 2025 Annual General Meeting with a special focus on (re)prioritising prevention in alcohol, tobacco, and other substance use.
This session will highlight global perspectives on governance challenges and opportunities for advancing comprehensive prevention programmes. With input from both the Global South and North, the meeting will explore how coordinated approaches can accelerate prevention and reduce harms worldwide.
The meeting will also feature organizational updates, including ICARA Board elections and the approval of updated By-Laws.
Objectives
- Share Global South and North perspectives on prevention governance challenges
- Discuss opportunities for coordinated action in alcohol, tobacco, and drug prevention
- Strengthen global collaboration among research associations and partners
- Provide a platform for ICARA members to contribute input on priorities and governance
