Overview
InterMAHP (www.intermahp.cisur.ca) is an open access alcohol harms estimator and policy scenario modeler, allowing regions, countries and cities to quickly calculate alcohol-caused health harms. This webinar will describe and introduce InterMAHP including the underlying theories and cover the needed data requirements. The online tool will then be used to work through an example of estimating alcohol-caused harms in a PAHO country, with an eye towards alcohol policy scenario modeling. The webinar will be in English with no translations, moderated by Dra. Maristela Monteiro and presented by Adam Sherk and Sam Churchill.
Presenters
Adam Sherk is a postdoctoral fellow at the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research at the University of Victoria, Canada. His research involves estimating alcohol-attributable harm and the impact of policy on drinking and harm. InterMAHP has been used to estimate alcohol-caused harms in Canada, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand, as well as provinces, states, and cities.
Sam Churchill received their Master of Science in Mathematics from the University of Victoria and is a Research Associate at the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research. Their contributions involve the design and implementation of models to estimate the effects of alcohol policy, with emphasis on alcohol tax modeling. Their work has been commissioned by Health Canada and the Finnish alcohol monopoly Alko.
