Refugees’ experiences of harmful alcohol use – Report Launch

The Scottish Health Action on Alcohol Problems (SHAAP) warmly invites to the launch of a new University of Edinburgh and SHAAP report: “Exploring the factors that influence harmful alcohol use through the refugee journey: a qualitative study.”

Date: Tuesday, November 10, 2020

Time: 14:00 – 16:00 GMT

Purpose

This study, conducted by Dr Fiona Cuthill and Dr Steph Grohmann of the University of Edinburgh and funded by SHAAP, assessed the experiences of, and perspectives regarding, alcohol use and harm among people seeking asylum and refugees in Scotland and England. It involved interviews with 20 individuals with current experience of seeking asylum in the UK, and 6 staff members working in third sector organisations, and makes strong recommendations for policy and practice.

The report launch will include a presentation of the findings and recommendations for policy by the researchers, and will leave time for attendees to engage in an open Q&A session and discussion.

Registration

The webinar will be hosted online using the ‘Zoom’ platform, and participants will be emailed a link in advance of the event.
