Alcohol Now: The Health Realities We Can’t Ignore
The Tenth Annual Caribbean Alcohol Reduction Day (CARD 2026) marks a decade of regional action to raise awareness about the harms of alcohol use and to strengthen public and political support for evidence-informed alcohol prevention policies. Led by the Healthy Caribbean Coalition (HCC) in partnership with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), CARD 2026 will focus on the theme “Alcohol Now: The Health Realities We Can’t Ignore.”
Since its launch in 2016, Caribbean Alcohol Reduction Day has served as a platform to highlight the health, social, and economic impacts of alcohol use, while promoting policy solutions aligned with the WHO SAFER Technical Package and the Global Alcohol Action Plan 2022–2030. The 2026 edition comes at a critical moment, as global and regional data continue to show insufficient progress on alcohol policy implementation.
The CARD 2026 webinar will examine the links between alcohol use and cancer, noncommunicable diseases, and other preventable harms, while addressing the commercial determinants that drive alcohol availability, affordability, and promotion in the Caribbean. The programme will also showcase regional research, policy updates, and community-level initiatives aimed at lowering population-level alcohol use.
The event brings together policymakers, public health experts, civil society organisations, researchers, and youth advocates from across the Caribbean to reinforce the case for comprehensive, evidence-based alcohol prevention measures.
