“NACADA Digital Licensing Alcohol Trade Starts Oct 2025”
Tech Trends reports:
“Kenya’s alcohol importers and exporters are about to face a major procedural overhaul. Beginning October 1, 2025, all licenses and consignment documents for alcoholic beverages will be processed exclusively through the Kenya National Electronic Single Window System, also known as the Trade Facilitation Platform (TFP).
“The announcement by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) signals the end of manual paperwork in a sector long bogged down by delays, duplicated processes, and compliance bottlenecks.”
Assessment
Kenya’s move to shift alcohol import and export licensing fully onto the National Electronic Single Window System represents an important modernisation step. By cutting out manual paperwork, the reform can improve transparency, reduce corruption, tax evasion, and increase enforcement capacity in a sector often marked by insufficient compliance.
For the country this is a positive development. More effective oversight of the alcohol industry and trade flows lowers revenue losses from under-reporting or illicit practices – such as have been exposed recently.
This move to shift alcohol import and export licensing fully onto the National Electronic Single Window System also makes it harder for alcohol companies to exploit loopholes.
For alcohol policy advocates this is an opportunity to direct the spotlight towards alcohol industry tax evasion and avoidance practices and in doing so illustrate their fundamental conflict of interest and the exploitative nature of the business model and conduct.
