ADIC Sri Lanka Launches Youth Action Network

ADIC Sri Lanka, a member organization of IOGT International, has launched the Youth Action Network Sri Lanka (YAN Sri Lanka) as their youth wing.

The backbone of development in a country is its youth. Paralyzing youth energy, strength and skills is problematic not only for youth development but also for the development of the country.

Alcohol, tobacco and other drugs are major risk factors affecting youth as well as the development of the country. These substances limit young people including their creativity, organizational skills, happiness and leadership.

Therefore, the Youth Action Network (YAN Sri Lanka) aims to conduct prevention through active mobilization and empowerment of youth.

YAN Sri Lanka is a youth-led network for young people, by young people, to promote development of youth through, alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention. It consists of District teams (25) and has in total 75 directors (3 directors per district) led by a Chairperson, Vice Chair and 2 Secretaries. Currently the directors manage 221 members island-wide. Apart from this there are other YAN teams for specific target groups (university, young professionals, music etc.).

YAN Sri Lanka is a multi-cultural, multi-lingual youth network. These young leaders work with other youth at the grassroots level towards alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention through activism in various fields such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) prevention, democracy, human rights, and gender equality.

So far, the heart-driven YAN team has done several campaigns including for the No Tobacco Day on May 31st and International Youth Day.
