CEM, BiH: ‘Older Brother, Older Sister’ Program Expands to Empower Even More Youth

The Center for Youth Eduction (Centar za edukaciju mladih, CEM) in Travnik, Bosnia and Herzegovina has launched the fourth cycle their “Older Brother, Older Sister” program. The fourth iteration of the successful program has been expanded to empower even more youth.

Fifteen pairs of volunteers and children which includes 50 children and 20 volunteers, have been brought together this time.

The program fosters social and personal development of children from vulnerable groups through daily socializing and organized activities during free time. It also enhances volunteer empathy and empowers youngsters to become positive role models.

Since the program has been showing positive results, it has been expanded in the fourth cycle to include children living outside of Travnik.

In corporation with Turbe Primary School and Nova Bila Primary School, the youth volunteers, use non-formal methods, allowing the children to spend their free time in workshops as well as in a relaxed atmosphere through play and discussions to gain confidence, learn and develop skills and learn to embrace and navigate diversity.

This cycle of the program “Older Brother, Older Sister” is implemented in cooperation with the Center for Social Work Travnik.
