Movendi International member Junis conducted summer activities hosting 4200 children this year, despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus crisis. The fun and engaging summer activities kept children happy, active and involved throughout the holidays.
Barbecues, film camps, visits to the skate park, tent nights, raft building, box car races – these are just a few of the activities organized by Junis, a Swedish child rights organization and member of Movendi International. Junis leaders arranged nearly 350 different activities during the summer months across Sweden, from Boden in the north to Hässleholm in the south.
For example, the Gothenburg day camp (in the west of the country) was supported by a grant from the city of Gothenburg. Children from three different districts were driven to a summer home where they enjoyed a treasure hunt and a lot of swimming.
Another of the summer’s events was arranged in Östersund in the north and received wide coverage from local newspapers and radio stations.
Junis was able to achieve these successful summer activities thanks to their 570 volunteer leaders who dedicated their time and heart-driven efforts to create lasting memories for children.
Of course, the pandemic caused big problems for Junis and the usually very ambitious summer schedule of activities. In a time where many activities were cancelled due to physical distancing rules and limitations on the group sizes for social gatherings, Junis’ ability to adapt, adjust and still arrange much needed events, activities and meetings – including virtually – for children proved to be impressive. Junis activities helped to give the kids a fun, happy and positive summer time in 2020.

Junis is a child rights organization in Sweden where any child below the age of 15 can join the activities and become a member. Junis has a strong network of about 200 local clubs across the country where children from all walks of life, and all kinds of different backgrounds are welcome to participate and get involved.
