The numbers of South African women seeking help for addiction to prescription pain medication has been skyrocketing.

In the face of the looming addiction epidemic, experts – among the chair of INCB, the International Narcotics Control Board – are calling for tighter monitoring with regard to prescribing certain drugs.

The issues spells tremendous challenges for South Africa: As more and more women in their 30s and 40s are seeking treatment, qualified workers, mothers and catalysts for South Africas sustainable development are lacking.
