Protecting Women, Improving Policy: Confronting Alcohol’s Role in Gendered Violence

This dynamic event spotlights the overlooked but powerful link between alcohol and violence against women and girls, drawing on global evidence, lived experience, and WHO Europe’s Special Initiative on VAWG. Speakers from Uganda, Bosnia, Movendi International, and WHO Europe will explore how alcohol fuels gendered violence, how industry practices reinforce harmful norms, and why evidence-based alcohol policy is essential for prevention.

Movendi International is launching two groundbreaking resources to help governments and advocates counter alcohol industry interference: a new Issue Brief exposing four flawed industry claims against alcohol taxation, and comprehensive Conflict of Interest Guidelines to safeguard public policy integrity.

Experts from Uganda, the EU, and Mexico will share community insights and strategies for protecting health and development from commercial influence.

Speakers from Sri Lanka, Brazil, Ghana, and Vital Strategies will showcase real-world advocacy insights and new tools to help turn public support into policy change.

Together, we explore how alcohol taxation delivers the quadruple win – for health, development, and social justice.

Delivering the Global Alcohol Action Plan: Independent Monitoring of Progress and Industry Interference

Movendi International is launching two groundbreaking accountability tools to accelerate implementation of the WHO Global Alcohol Action Plan (GAAP) and support countries in achieving the 20% consumption reduction target.

This event presents the first Civil Society Shadow Report and the pilot Alcohol Industry Interference Index, offering independent insights into where countries are making progress – and what is standing in the way.

Hear evidence from global, regional, and national actors; explore real examples of industry interference; and discuss ways to strengthen accountability, social participation, and interference-free policy making.
