Meet Maik Dünnbier

Maik, from Cottbus, Germany, is Director of Strategy and Advocacy in Movendi International. He works closely together with our Executive Director and advices our President and International Board on strategic questions and advocacy issues.

Maik is a political scientist, advocacy specialist, civil society activist, and value-based health promotion communication expert.

Maik leads Movendi International with creativity, heart-driven passion and critical thinking.

Short biography

Maik Dünnbier is Director of Strategy and Advocacy at Movendi International. He has an academic background in political science, philosophy, history of ideas, and global development from Dresden University, in Germany and Stockholm University, in Sweden.

In addition, he has extensive experience in youth work and community-based work, having volunteered for more nearly two decades in different functions in the Movendi International movement.

Maik leads Movendi International’s advocacy work on global and regional level, including the engagement with the UN system. He has extensive experience in addressing alcohol harm as obstacle to sustainable development, human diginity, and social justice. And he is leading Movendi International’s work to empower governments, UN agencies, and civil society to develop and implement proven alcohol policy solutions to promote health and development for all.

Maik is the host of the Alcohol Issues Podcast, where he speaks with leaders in policy, science, civil society, and government about the many dimensions of alcohol harm and the potential of addressing this harm through evidence-based action to achieve global health and sustainable development goals.

Among other engagements, Maik is a guest contributor to the global health program at Zurich University of Applied Sciences and in the global health summer program of George Washington University’s Milken Institute School of Public Health.

Maik works closely with the 170+ Member Organizations of Movendi International to empower local action and global joint initiatives to promote health for all, counter-act health harming industries, and achieve the sustainable development goals.
