Global Health CSOs Ambivalent About NCDs High-Level Meeting

In a recent Devex article entitled “High-level meeting on NCDs holds promise, and pitfalls“ Jenny Lei Ravelo writes that ever since WHO made plans public to create an independent high-level commission on NCDs, the global health community has waited impatiently to get to know the details.

Recent, WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus released the full composition of the high-level commission. The list of commission members includes high-profile leaders from the public and private sector.

However, the announcement raises questions of whether this commission in particular and the high-level meeting in general will at last prove a turning point, moving from declarations and acknowledgments to action – and which role civil society will play and whether there are enough safeguards against health-harmful industries …
