Ukraine: Alcohol Bottom Price Proposed
The Economic Development and Trade Ministry of Ukraine has proposed bottom wholesale and retail prices for high volume alcohol products.
The proposal to introduce a minimum price would comprise the following alcohol types:
- Vodka and liquors by 10.7%,
- Whiskey, rum and gin by 7.3%,
- Cognac by 9.1-9.5%, and
- Wine by 7.4-10.2%.
This change appears to be much in favor of the interests of the alcohol industry, not public health.
The alcohol industry and their trade associations agreed the proposal in a reported meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister and Economic Development and Trade Minister Stepan Kubiv.
