USA: Alcohol-Free Lifestyle Reshapes Nightlife

The alcohol-free way of life reshapes nightlife across the United States, as more and more people embrace sobriety.

As Movendi International previously reported, nightlife in New York City has been changing with more alcohol-free spaces and people going sober. It seems the trend is reaching to other parts of the country as well.

The Sober Curious movement has been growing for a while in the U.S., driven by young people who are choosing healthier alcohol-free lifestyles.

USA: Sober Curious Movement Growing

The growing alcohol-free way of life can be seen from the new alcohol-free bars and also online with more than 1.2 million #soberlife Instagram posts and more than 500,000 #soberissexy posts. The demographic of people going alcohol-free is vast, while some are recovering from addiction, most people are just looking for a healthier life.

According to 23-year-old Mikaela Berry, who likes to go out and meet people, connections are just not as genuine when alcohol is involved.

There’s this kind of blind spot in culture where a lot of our social life, and a lot of our night life, is exclusively built around alcohol,” said Lorelei Bandrovski, who created Listen Bar in New York, a pop-up alcohol-free bar and social space, as per, CBS News.

The alcohol-free market is growing according to many indicators. In adjusting to the new trend even big alcohol brands have started to sell zero-alcohol beverages. The non-alcoholic beer industry is expected to grow to over $25 billion by 2024, and there’s also a slew of alcohol-free spirits saturating the market.

The sober movement is also helping those who are recovering from addiction by being more inclusive of different choices. For example through the app Loosid people can connect through sober dating, sober events, sober travel, sober groups, whether they are recovering from addiction or simply choosing an alcohol-free lifestyle.

A new study from the University of Hong Kong found abstaining from alcohol could actually boost mental health and well-being.

The younger generations prioritizing their mental health and well-being is also a big part of the growing alcohol-free way of life, as they realize psychoactive substances affect them negatively.
