Awareness Week on Alcohol-Related Harm 2020

In the WHO European Region, the Awareness Week on Alcohol-Related Harm 2020 (#awarh2020) takes place from November 16 to 20, 2020 and features several events on alcohol and cancer, alcohol and SDGs with the release of corresponding WHO Europe fact sheets, as well as on alcohol and COVID-19 promoting a previously-published fact sheet on the subject.

AWARH 2020: Alcohol and Cancer Event

The focus in this event will be the links between alcohol and cancer and the forthcoming Europe Beating Cancer Plan. In conjunction with this event, WHO Europe is also launching its new factsheet for policy makers, Alcohol and Cancer in the WHO European Region.

AWARH 2020: Alcohol and COVID-19 Event

In April, the WHO Regional Offices for Europe, the Americas (PAHO) and the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) released important guidance and advice on alcohol and COVID-19. With the new factsheet WHO reminded people that consuming alcohol does not protect them from COVID-19, and encouraged governments to enforce measures which limit alcohol consumption.

AWARH 2020: Alcohol and Sustainable Development

Alcohol is a major obstacle to sustainable development, adversely affecting 14 of 17 SDGs.
The focus in this event is on how evidence-based alcohol policies can contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Europe. In conjunction with this event, WHO Europe is also launching its new factsheet for policy makers "Alcohol consumption and sustainable development" and there will also be a presentation of a new Special Issue Alcohol Control Policy and Health in Europe of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.

Alcohol Policy Network Symposium

The 2021 Alcohol Policy Network (APN) Symposium will take place on November 19, as a side event of the alcohol awareness week meeting organized in coordination by Eurocare and WHO. 

Advanced Youth School of Health Policy and Advocacy on Alcohol Control and Prevention
