Organized by the government of Sri Lanka and IOGT International, this side event at the 59th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs will present the facts on established tactics of the tobacco and the alcohol industry and draw a comparison with the emerging marijuana industry which promotes and perpetuates myths about the effects of marijuana, distorts scientific evidence, buys their own “science” and systematically uses the media to drown out independent evidence and a science-based approach. What can be learnt from exposing the tactics of the tobacco and alcohol industry? What lessons are to be learnt concerning the emerging marijuana industry? How can we prevent the establishment of yet another industry profiting from ill-health?
